fountain pen flock
i collect and write with fountain pens. they make for a good hobby for folks who enjoy the physical aspects of thinking and creating - i use them mainly for my commonplace journal and drawing. refilling, cleaning, and performing any maintenence on them also feels like a pretty meditative activity. the best part is probably the sheer selection of inks out there and their various features, like sheening, shading, chromo/multi-shading, etc.entries are arranged from newest to oldest, defined by when i wrote the entry and not when i added the pen to my collection.

LAMY Safari - charcoal
entry added july 20, 2024medium, cartridge/converter
purchased this pen while on vacation from Wet Paint. i've been eyeing this pen for a minute and like LAMY's build quality and relatively affordable price point. the texture on the charcoal Safari makes it feel a little warmer/gentler to write with, and the nib is smooth without being glassy. i also like that the clip is coated with some kind of paint - it adds a bit of grip to the clip to make it more secure in a shirt pocket.
Faber-Castell Loom - gunmetal
entry added july 20, 2024fine, cartridge/converter
got this one a while ago on a whim when i heard that its got a nice, bouncy, expressive nib. and indeed it does! i'd actually compare this steel nib to some of the gold ones i've written with. in retrospect, i wish i had gotten a medium nib--the fine on this one is very fine and it tends to write pretty dry. the section feels a bit slippery, too, so i sometimes feel like i don't have a lot of precise control over the pen. for these reasons, i don't often use this pen unless i have a specific need to write very fine letters.
Pelikan Classic M205 - blue marble
entry added july 20, 2024fine, piston filler
one of my favorite pens to write with. lightweight and smooth with a slight amount of feedback. i gravitate towards piston-fillers for their ink capacity and because the filling mechanism is part of the pen itself. they can be a little fiddly to flush out and clean, but i don't change inks often. this pen has a special place in my collection because of its bird theme, and because it was the first "big" pen i bought in terms of cost.
